Valve Check / Adjustment

Motorcycle valve adjustment is a critical maintenance procedure that involves adjusting the clearance between the camshaft and valve lifter. A proper valve adjustment lets the engine run more smoothly and efficiently, which helps prevent engine damage and improves overall performance. It's recommended as scheduled by your manufacturer, or if there are signs of valve wear or damage.

Why and When You Need It

If your machine is performing poorly, starts hard, backfires, or has a noisy valve train, it may be time for a valve adjustment. The valves are timed to the piston movement via the timing chain and other components — if they're out of adjustment, the motor's intake, power, or exhaust stroke may stop working correctly. Recommended on your manufacturer's interval, or at the first sign of these symptoms.
